Widener vs. Cabrini
April 3, 2010
The Game Story:
Widener could not overcome a third-quarter barrage by No. 17 Cabrini and was dealt a 15-5 loss at Leslie C. Quick Jr. Stadium.

Cabrini (7-3) opened a 7-3 lead at halftime, which included six straight markers in just under 20 minutes to turn a tie game into a 7-1 contest. Bobby Thorpe scored five minutes into the match to give the Cavaliers the lead for good at 2-1.

The visitors netted all six goals in the third quarter for a 13-3 margin. Brian Hill (Folsom, PA) had a goal and an assist in that span.

Casey Grugan and Andrew Protenic scored three times with Rich Romanelli and Joe Hughes netting two apiece for Cabrini. Mike Gurenlian won 8-of-12 face-offs and Erick Zarzecki made eight saves.

Senior Cory Malampy (Ridley, PA) scored twice with Kevin Rider (Shamong, NJ), fellow junior Kevin McLemore (Upper Darby, PA) and sophomore Mark Kane (Morton, PA) scoring once for the Pride (3-5). Freshman Bobby Schluter (Kennett Square, PA) had 12 saves.

The game helped raise money for the HEADstrong Foundation. This organization was created in memory of Nick Colleluori, a 2004 graduate of Ridley High School and a Hofstra University lacrosse player who was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. Colleluori lost his relentless battle to cancer in 2006 after a 14-month fight.

Widener on Tuesday returns to Middle Atlantic Conference play against Alvernia, beginning at 7:00 pm at Leslie C. Quick Jr. Stadium.
