Widener vs. Cabrini

The Game Story:
CHESTER, PA - Pennsylvania Athletic Conference champion Cabrini scored four unanswered goals in the final 9:39 of the game to pull away with a 13-8 men^s lacrosse victory at Widener, the Middle Atlantic Conference champions, in NCAA Tournament first round action. Cabrini advances to the second round where they will face Salisbury University (15-1) on Satuday.

Widener jumped out to a quick start, scoring the first three goals of the game, and led 6-4 with 10:46 left in the second quarter as the two teams traded goals over a 15-minute span in the two quarters. Cabrini scored the final three goals of the first half to knot the game up at six apiece as the first half came to an end.

Matthew Grosse scored the first goal of the second half, giving Cabrini a 7-6 lead with 6:23 left in the third quarter, and led by as many as two goals as Mike Pape registered his third goal of the game just over a minute later. Kyle Swezey scored his third of four goals for Widener 23 seconds later but Cabrini received a lift when Rory Friel scored his first of three goals with 35 seconds left in the quarter.

Widener pulled back to within a goal when Swezey scored for the fourth time in the game just 18 seconds into the final quarter before Cabrini scored the final four goals of the game.

Cabrini had two players score three times, including Mike Pape and Rory Friel. Matt Campbell and Michael Piccoli had two goals each. Swezey was Widener^s only multiple goal scorer with four goals and Jamie Lockard had one goal and one assist.

Pat Carmack made 24 saves in 59 minutes of action for Widener and Antonio Masone made 11 saves for Cabrini.

Widener concludes its season with a final record of 12-4 while Cabrini improves to 13-3 overall.
