| 2/27/08 -- Senior Clint Quedenfeld (Chalfont, PA) notched career highs of six goals and nine points, lifting Widener to a 17-9 season-opening victory over Kean at Leslie C. Quick Jr. Stadium. Quedenfeld scored five times in the first half, including three during a six-goal second quarter, to help the Pride open a 10-5 lead. Junior Justin Upp (Camden, DE), who won 10-of-15 face-offs overall, netted all three of his goals in the second quarter. Senior Brian Stromko (Maplewood, NJ), a preseason Honorable Mention All-America, had three goals and an assist with fellow sophomore Cory Malampy (Ridley, PA) netting two goals. Senior Luke Weber (Lititz, PA), also a preseason Honorable Mention All-America, had a goal and two assists. Freshman Kevin Carney (Ridley, PA) needed just four saves in his collegiate debut for the Pride (1-0), who owned a decisive 52-23 shots edge. Scott Leathem scored four goals and Dave Nichols made 19 saves for the Cougars (0-2). Widener continues its three-game homestand Saturday against top-ranked Salisbury, beginning at 1:00 pm. |
