| 4/14/07 -- Junior Chris Matthews (Drexel Hill, PA) scored a season-high five goals and keyed a second-half run for Widener in a 14-7 Middle Atlantic Conference victory over Lycoming at Leslie C. Quick Jr. Stadium. Widener (6-4, 4-2 MAC) scored the first six goals of the second half to open a 12-5 lead with 9:18 remaining. Matthews netted four in that span with Brian Stromko (Maplewood, NJ) and fellow junior Clint Quedenfeld (Chalfont, PA) adding one apiece. Stromko ended with four goals, marking the fourth time in five contests he has reached that plateau. Quedenfeld had two goals and three assists for the Pride, who gained a 51-28 shots edge. Senior Andrew Johnson (Wallingford, PA) had eight saves with senior Darnell Jones (Severn, MD) and junior Adam Ardary (Springfield, PA) each notching four ground balls. Matthews bested his season high of four goals from March 27 against Drew. The margin would have been a lot more if not for the play of Lycoming goalkeeper Kyle Gilfoy, who made 19 saves that included eight in the first quarter. Jim Cusick, Brad Schaeffer and Dan Cannon each scored twice for the Warriors (2-8, 2-4). Widener is home Tuesday against DeSales, beginning at 4:00 pm. |
