ROYALS SECOND-HALF RALLY FALLS SHORT, LOSE 11-8 TO REGULAR-SEASON CHAMPION WIDENER IN MAC SEMIFINALS; END SEASON WITH 7-9 RECORD

CHESTER, Pa.—The University of Scranton fought back from an 8-4 halftime deficit and closed to within one before dropping an 11-8 decision to regular-season and number one seed Widener University in the semifinals of the Middle Atlantic Conference tournament Wednesday afternoon.

Senior Timothy Miller (Glen Cove, N.Y./Chaminade) and sophomore Jonathan Sutter (Media, Pa./Penncrest) led the Royals, which put the wraps on a 7-9 season, with two goals apiece and Jeffrey Lange (Syracuse, N.Y./Christian Brothers Academy), Todd Cuccia (Larchmont, N.Y./Iona Prep), Brian Lipski (Philadelphia, Pa./LaSalle) and Kyle Eaton (Old Bridge, N.J./Milford Academy) added one apiece. Brian Manion led the Pioneers, now 11-3 overall, with a game-high five goals and Steve Littlewood and Kyle Swezey added two apiece.

Junior goalkeeper Thomas Kenyon (Chittenango, N.Y./Chittenango) made a game-high 18 saves for Scranton while Widener’s Pat Carmack had 11.

The Pioneers will host the winner of Messiah-FDU-Florham this Saturday, May 2, beginning at 1:00 p.m., with the eventual winner receiving an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III championships.
