| 4/1/06 -- No. 17 Widener scored 12 straight goals bridging the first and third quarters for its third victory in four games, a 16-3 Middle Atlantic Conference triumph over Susquehanna at Leslie C. Quick Jr. Stadium. The run for Widener (4-4, 3-1 MAC) helped it to a 12-1 lead with 11:08 left in the third quarter. Senior Dennis Mann (Havertown, PA) scored all of his team-high four goals in that span, sophomore Chris Matthews (Drexel Hill, PA) recorded a natural hat trick and senior Todd Fairlie (Broomall, PA) also scored three times. The defense also did its part, holding Susquehanna (5-3, 3-1) without a goal for 29:05. Junior Andrew Johnson (Wallingford, PA) made nine saves, playing almost 51 minutes to improve to 2-0 this year. Junior Gavin Goane (Springfield, PA) dished four assists, Fairlie added three and junior Darnell Jones (Severn, MD) had seven ground balls for the Pioneers, who gained a 45-20 edge in shots and a 35-15 advantage in ground balls. Tim Storck scored twice, Tom Thayer added a goal and Kirk Ryan made 10 saves over 30 minutes for the Crusaders. Widener on Tuesday visits DeSales for a 3:30 pm faceoff. |
