Luke Weber's Overtime Goal Lifts Men's Lacrosse to Thrilling 9-8 Victory Over McDaniel

3/15/08 -- Senior Luke Weber (Lititz, PA) scored 3:05 into overtime, helping Widener snap a three-game losing streak with a 9-8 victory over McDaniel at Leslie C. Quick Jr. Stadium.

McDaniel (2-2) won the faceoff to start overtime, but TJ Willoughby had his shot saved by senior Tim Collins (Yorktown Heights, NY). Widener (2-3) got the ball, but saw a shot from senior Brian Stromko (Maplewood, NJ) go high and an attempt from sophomore Cory Malampy (Ridley, PA) saved by Kenny McHugh.

The Green Terrorís clear attempt failed and Stromko picked up the ground ball two minutes into overtime. Senior Clint Quedenfeld (Chalfont, PA) got the ball on the left wing and fed in front for Weber, who fired it home.

The Pride, down 3-0 in the first 4:38, netted four straight goals to open an 8-5 lead with 11:12 remaining in regulation. Quedenfeld scored twice in that run.

But McDaniel scored three consecutive goals for an 8-8 tie, the last coming from Matt Buschman with 4:52 to play.

Stromko ended with two goals and three assists for Widener, which posted a 49-30 shots edge. Quedenfeld and Malampy each scored twice and Collins made 11 saves.

Buschman, Bill Warner and Gibbs Preston each netted a pair and McHugh stopped 13 shots for the Green Terror.

Widener hits the road Wednesday to face Wesley, beginning at 7:00 pm.
