The Game Story:
WOOSTER, Ohio - The College of Wooster men's lacrosse team cut a 7-1 Ohio Wesleyan University halftime advantage to four at 8-4 with 14:53 left in the fourth quarter, but the Battling Bishops withstood the comeback attempt Wednesday afternoon, holding on for an 11-5 win in North Coast Athletic Conference action over the Fighting Scots at John P. Papp Stadium.

The two teams exchanged the first two goals of the contest, as Wooster hung tough with the Battling Bishops during the first period trailing by one (2-1). However, Ohio Wesleyan (9-4, 3-1 NCAC) struck five times in the second quarter to take a six-goal advantage into the break at 7-1.

The Fighting Scots (7-5, 2-2 NCAC) scored three of the next four goals during the third quarter and opening moments of the fourth, chipping the deficit to four via a pair of goals by Mark Weschler and a tally by Alex Mies, the latter with one tick showing on the third-quarter clock.

Ohio Wesleyan responded with three unanswered scores and sealed the conference victory.

Wooster’s offensive attack was led by Weschler’s hat trick along with an assist. Junior Dan MacVarish recorded the fifth goal for Wooster, while junior Pat Coyne and senior Tim Lee each added a helper.

For the visitors, Rob Young matched Weschler’s output with three goals and an assist, while Karl Zimmerman and Dave Castignola each tacked on two goals in the win.

In goal, Scot freshman Corey McGann was credited with seven saves. On the opposite end of the field, Jud Hall stopped 11 Wooster shots in picking up the win for the Battling Bishops.

Wooster will host Kenyon College (7-6, 2-2 NCAC) in its regular season finale this Saturday at 1 p.m
