Farmingdale vs. Montclair State

The Game Story:
Farmingdale, NY (4/1/07) Sophomore goalkeeper Thomas Bowers (Hamburg, NJ/Pope John XIII) made 21 stops while Mario Passafiume (Boonton, NJ/Mountain Lakes) and John Della Pesca (Fair Lawn, NJ/Fair Lawn) scored twice during a decisive four-goal run as Montclair State edged Farmingale State, 13-12 in Skyline Conference men's lacrosse action on Sunday afternoon.

Bryan Klimchak (Clark, NJ/AL Johnson) scored four goals as the Red Hawks won their third straight game. MSU is now 4-3 overall this season, 3-1 in the Skyline Conference. The Rams drop to 3-6 overall, 3-1 in the Skyline.

At the half, the score was tied 5-5 and Montclair scored four straight in the third period to take the 9-5 lead. Passafiume scored seven seconds in on a man-up goal and added another midway through the period to give MSU a two-goal lead. Della Pesca would tally his two goals during a 57-second span as Montclair widended its lead to four with 6:02 left in the third. Farmingdale cut the score to 9-7 before the start of the fourth with goals from freshman Jon Trama (North Babylon, N.Y./North Babylon) and junior Jeremy Goohs (Merrick, N.Y./Calhoun).

Taylor Bonner (Old Bridge, NJ/Old Bridge) and A.J. Bachman (Montville, NJ/Mountain Lakes) regined the four-goal lead early in the fourth, but the Rams offset another the two goals by the Red Hawks with three scores to make it 11-10. Ryan LaFlare (Lindenhurst, N.Y./Lindenhurst) had two goals and a goal from sophomore Anthony Jacobi (Jericho, N.Y./Syosset) made it a one-goal game with 7:56 to play, however, Klimchak responded with the final two goals and the eventual game-winner for a 13-10 advantage. Jacobi and LaFlare added another goal each but time ran out before Farmingdale could complete the comeback.

Senior goalkeeper Kevin Winters (Baldwin, N.Y./Baldwin) made 17 saves in defeat for Farmingdale State.

Bonner and Bachman each finished with two goals for MSU. Passafiume had eight ground balls and eight faceoff wins for the Red Hawks, which outshot Farmingdale, 54-45. The Red Hawks also scored on 5-of-8 extra-man opportunities. Matt Sharp (Wilmington, DE/Salesianum) added seven ground balls and two caused turnovers.

Montclair State returns to action on Wednesday afternoon as it hosts Mt. St. Vincent in a Skyline Confernece matchup at Sprague Field beginning at 4:30 pm.
