|Nick Santillo scored late in the second overtime to lift the Misericordia University men's lacrosse team to an 8-7 win over DeSales in the Freedom Conference semifinals, Wednesday night at Mangelsdorf Field.|
Santillo had two goals and an assist and Kyle Calabro added a pair of goals.
J.R. Lauri, Sean McGuigan, Jared Hunt and Trevor Bodnar all added goals for the Cougars.
Patrick Johnson made 10 saves in net for MU.
Misericordia took an early lead when Calabro converted a Bulldogs' turnover into an unassisted goal less than a minute into the game.
Bodnar made it 2-0 when he streaked in from the right side and fired a shot just below the crossbar with 7:32 left in the opening period.
Jarrod Weidow got DeSales on the board with a nifty spin move and shot from the top of the circle less than a minute later.
McGuigan answered when he whipped a low shot from the right side off a nice feed from Mason Quickel with 4:30 to go in the first quarter.
Santillo found Lauri planted near the left post to make it 4-1 with 3:17 to go in the stanza.
Santillo drove the lane and bounced a shot inside the left post to MU ahead, 5-1, with 1:48 left in the first.
DeSales cut into the deficit with three unanswered goals in the second quarter.
Lance Bracale scored twice in a 30-second span to make it 4-3 and Ryan Rowse score off a nice pass from Ryan Loughlin from behind the net with 7:09 left before halftime.
DeSales tied it early in the third, but Hunt put MU back in front, 6-5, off a feed from Sean Forsyth with 11:10 left in the third period.
Calabro dodged two defenders to notch a man-up goal and give MU a 7-5 lead with 1:35 to go in the third quarter.
DeSales pulled within one in the opening minute of the fourth period and Weidow sent it to OT with a goal with five seconds left in regulation.
Misericordia will play at Eastern in their first trip to the Freedom Conference title game.
