Misericordia vs. Mount Saint Vincent

The Game Story:
Less than 24 hours after learning of the tragic death of former Misericordia lacrosse player Matt Davis, the MU men's lacrosse team recorded a 16-1 win over Mt. St. Vincent, Sunday afternoon at Mangelsdorf Field.

With many of Davis' former teammates in attendance, the Cougars played inspired from the opening face-off and scored four times in each quarter.

Sean McGuigan had five goals and Lee Blair added four goals and an assist while improving to 3-1.

J.R. Lauri had a goal and three assists and Nick Santillo added a goal and two assists. Pat McTague, Ryan Cannon, Trevor Bodnar, Matt Gonzalez and Nick Kenna all added goals for the Cougars.

Patrick Johnson made 11 saves in goal.

The Cougars raced out to a 4-0 lead in the opening quarter thanks to three goals from Blair and a goal and three assists from Lauri.

From behind the net, Lauri found Blair who fired a shot inside the far post for a 1-0 lead less than three minutes into the game.

Blair made it 2-0 with an unassisted goal just 30 seconds later.

Lauri picked up a ground ball off Santillo's caused turnover and raced the down the middle for an unassisted goal and 3-0 lead with 9:25 left in the opening period.

Just before halftime, Blair took a pass from Lauri from behind the net and fired a shot inside the near post for a 4-0 lead.

Bodnar charged the net for an unassisted goal and a 5-0 lead to open the second quarter.

After MU killed off a two-minute penalty, the Dolphins scored their only goal of the game with 10:27 left in the second period.

Santillo assisted on back-to-back goals by Blair and McGuigan for a 7-1 lead with 2:42 to go before halftime.

Gonzalez closed out the first half scoring when he took a nice feed from Lauri and fired a shot over the goalie's left shoulder.

McGuigan added four second half goals, including two in each quarter, as the Cougars stretched their lead.

Misericordia will host Penn State Abington, Wednesday.
