| BROCKPORT, N.Y.. -- Drew Hyatt (Jamesville/Jamesville-Dewitt) scored five goals to lead #4 Cortland to a 10-5 men's lacrosse victory at Special Olympics Stadium Wednesday.
The Red Dragons improve to 11-1 overall and 4-0 in SUNYAC play, while the Golden Eagles fell to 2-7 overall and 0-4. Adam Hughes (North Syracuse/Cicero-North Syracuse) had a goal and an assist while Kyle Lambert (Brentwood), Andrew Roth (Ridgewood, NJ/Don Bosco Prep), Mike Felice (Baldwinsville/C.W. Baker) and Michael Bryant (Hamburg/Frontier) each scored for the Red Dragons. SUNY Brockport had five different goal scorers in the contest. John Tanner (Schenectady/Guilderland), Mark Vastola (W. Seneca/W. Seneca East), Steve Reynolds (Oswego), Chris Clemenson (Ovid/DeSales) and David McAlpin (Webster/Schroeder) all scored for Brockport. Ben Gaebel (Deferiet/Carthage) made 14 saves in the contest, whlie John Contratto (Lowville/Lowville Academy) made 17 stops for the Golden Eagles. Cortland had a 47-39 shot advantage, while Brockport had a 41-37 ground ball advantage in the game. Cortland had 22 successful clears in 25 attempts in this win, and won 11 of 19 face-offs. Brockport led 2-1 after the first period, as Reynolds broke a tie with 1:13 left. But Hyatt scored the next three in the second quarter for a 4-2 Brockport lead. The Golden Eagles tallied with 16 seconds left in the first half with McAplin's goal. The Red Dragons opened it up with four third period goals, leading 8-3 with 7:09 left. SUNY Brockport plays at Plattsburgh Saturday. |
