|The Game Story:|
|Freshman Pat Reilly (Fairport, NY/Fairport) scored three goals and three assists to lead the SUNY Brockport Menís Lacrosse team to a 10-3 victory over SUNY Oswego in the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) opener for both teams Saturday at Irondequoit High School.|
The game was originally scheduled to be played at Special Olympics Stadium in Brockport but was moved to the Rochester-area high school field due to unplayable field conditions at SUNY Brockport.
Reilly led the Golden Eagles (6-1 overall, 1-0 SUNYAC) offensively but it was the strong defensive play of Brockport that was the difference in the game. Brockport held the Lakers (3-5, 0-1) scoreless over the final 30 minutes of the contest and kept Oswego off the scoreboard in the opening quarter as well.
Brockport controlled possession of the ball for the majority of the second half and limited Oswego to 12 shots over the final two quarters while firing 16 shots on the Laker cage and scoring five times.
The Golden Eagles scored the first two goals of the game to take a 2-0 lead into the second quarter where Brockport made it a 4-0 game early in the quarter. Oswego finished the quarter with a flurry and the game Brockport lead was just 5-3 at the intermission.
Reilly scored 32 seconds into the second half to give the Golden Eagles the early momentum that carried throughout the remainder of the game. Brockport added two more goals in the third and two additional insurance goals in the fourth to close out the game.
Reilly finished with six points with three in each half while Adam Drypolcher (Manlius, NY/Fayetteville-Manlius), Kyle Baker (Watertown, NY/Immaculate Heart) and Joe Aquilina (Webster, NY/Webster Schroeder) added two goals each for Brockport. Aquilina and Baker each added an assist.
Garret Allwes (Amherst, NY/Amherst) played the entire 60 minutes in the Brockport goal and finished with 11 saves.
