| Sophomore Alex Austin (Rochester, NY/Trinity-Pawling) scored his second goal of the game with just less than five minutes left in the fourth quarter to give The College at Brockport Men's Lacrosse team a 9-8 lead but Potsdam scored twice in the closing minutes to pull out a 10-9 victory Saturday afternoon in a State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) game on Bob Boozer Field at Eunice Kennedy Shriver Stadium in Brockport. Neither team held more than a one goal lead at any point in the game as Brockport (5-6 Overall, 1-1) held the lead four different times and the Bears (5-3, 1-0) had six different leads in the game. Potsdam scored first with less than four minutes to play in the opening quarter but Riley Austin (Rochester, NY/Eastridge) answered for the Golden Eagles two minutes later to knot the score at 1-1. In the second quarter, Riley Austin scored again a minute into the period for a 2-1 Brockport lead and Potsdam scored midway through the quarter to even the score and the two teams entered the halftime intermission with a 2-2 tie. In the second half, Jesse Elliott (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa), Alex Austin and Matt Andon-McLane (Syracuse, NY/Nottingham) each scored for the Golden Eagles in the third quarter but the Bears added four goals for a 6-5 lead heading into the final quarter. Sophomore Bryon Palmer (Johnson City, NY/Johnson City) scored 49 seconds into the fourth quarter to even the score at 6-6. With 8:19 left to play, Potsdam took the 7-6 lead but 13 seconds later Brendon Rothfuss (Webster, NY/Webster Thomas) scored to tie the game at 7-7. After the Bears took an 8-7 lead with 6:12 remaining, Brockport came back with goals by Andon-McLane and Alex Austin for the 9-8 advantage with 4:59 left in the contest. Potsdam scored the final two goals of the game in a span of 50 seconds with the winning goal coming at the 2:27 mark of the quarter. |
