| Junior Joe Gomez (Amherst, NY/Amherst) scored two first quarter goals but The College at Brockport Men�s Lacrosse team was held scoreless in the final quarter in a 6-4 loss to State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) opponent SUNY Potsdam on Saturday afternoon at Special Olympics Stadium in Brockport. The Golden Eagles (5-4, 0-3 SUNYAC) fell behind early as Potsdam scored two and a half minutes in for a 1-0 lead. Gomez answered with back-to-back goals at the 6:46 and 5:25 marks of the first quarter giving Brockport a 2-1 lead going into the second quarter. Potsdam (6-3, 3-0 SUNYAC) tied the score half-way through the second quarter on a man-up advantage following a Brockport penalty. With the score 2-2, sophomore Adam Drypolcher (Manlius, NY/Fayetteville-Manlius) scored the go-ahead goal with 2:15 to play in the half with a behind the shoulder shot off an assist from junior Jeremy DeJohn (Jordan, NY/Jordan-Elbridge) for a 3-2 lead. The Bears tied the game with only 36 seconds left to play in the first half sending the two teams into halftime with a 3-3 tie score. In the third quarter, Zac McIlmoyle scored his second goal of the game with 10:52 to play in the quarter giving Potsdam the lead at 4-3, one they would not relinquish the rest of the game. Only a minute later, the Bears tacked on another goal for a 5-3 lead. Junior Brad Olzinsky (Johnson City, NY/Union-Endicott) scored his fourth goal of the season cutting the Potsdam lead in half at 5-4 with 7:49 to play in the quarter, but with only 41 seconds to play in the third, the Bears scored the insurance goal extending the lead back to two goals at 6-4. The Golden Eagles offense was held in check and could only get off three shots in the final quarter, as Potsdam held on for the 6-4 final and improved to a perfect 3-0 in SUNYAC play. Brockport was 1-for-7 on extra-man opportunities, while Potsdam was 1-for-3 on the afternoon. The Golden Eagles outshot the Bears by a slight 33-31 margin. Junior Garret Allwes (Amherst, NY/Amherst) played all 60 minutes in goal, making 14 saves, including six in the fourth quarter keeping Brockport alive. Potsdam�s Billy Richards made 10 saves earning the win in goal for the Bears. |
