Ursinus vs. Franklin And Marshall
March 24, 2007
The Game Story:
COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. - Mike Tori's man-up goal with 9:41 left to play was the difference as Ursinus squeaked out a 9-8 win over Franklin & Marshall in Centennial Conference men's lacrosse Saturday. The win was the Bears (4-2, 1-1 CC) first in over the Diplomats (3-3, 0-1 CC) in the series, which dates back to 2001.

F&M was playing catch-up from the outset with Pat Nagle becoming the first of seven Bears to find twine on the afternoon a little more than five minutes in. Six different players on Ursinus scored once, while Dane Mangin recorded a first half hat trick.

Kevin Kohl (Manasquan, NJ / Loomis Chaffee) netted the first of his pair exactly one minute after Nagle struck, but Ursinus responded with a 4-1 run on the F&M cage for a three goal lead, the largest differential of the contest.

The Diplomats rallied with four unanswered goals, sparked by Phil Schellhorn's shorthanded tally early in the second quarter. Kohl's second goal capped the run, giving F&M its only lead of the game, a 6-5 edge, with 3:34 left in the half. Mangin's final tally of the day 31 seconds before the half made it 6-6.

Working the second half, Matt Orlando clamped down on the Diplomats turning aside seven Diplomats advances. Sean Tillman gave him a two-goal margin of error with 13:21 left to play before Tori capped the Bears scoring.

In addition to Kohl's pair, Cyrus Adams (Nashville, Tenn. / Montgomery Bell) found the net twice, including an extra man strike with 2:06 left to play. Kohl came up with a pair of assists in the loss.

Franklin & Marshall falls to 3-3 (0-1 CC), while Ursinus improved to 4-2 (1-1 CC). The Diplomats return to action on Wednesday when it hosts Swarthmore for the first game at SPonaugle-Williamson field this season.
