The Game Story:
COLLEGEVILLE, PA -- The 11th-ranked Washington College men's lacrosse team recorded its first shutout since 1997, defeating host Ursinus College, 19-0, in a Centennial Conference game. The Shoremen are now 3-2 overall and 2-0 in conference play, while the Bears slip to 1-2 and 0-2.

The Shoremen scored six goals in the first quarter, four in the second, four in the third, and five in the fourth en route to keeping an opponent off the scoreboard for the first time since defeating Swarthmore, 17-0, on April 16th, 1997.

Junior midfielder Steve Berger (Jessup, MD/Mt. St. Joseph) scored three goals and handed out six assists in the win. He has now recorded 13 assists in his last two games. Sophomore attackman Jon Spivey (Timonium, MD/Dulaney) netted a team-high five goals and added one assist. Senior attackman Chris Edwards (Baltimore, MD/Boys' Latin) finished with four goals and one assist, while junior attackman Michael McWilliams (Essex Fells, NJ/West Essex) contributed two goals and one assist.

Freshman goalie Kevin Thibadeau (Cheshire, CT/Avon Old Farms) made seven saves in goal for the Shoremen, playing the first three quarters. Senior Jesse Markowitz (Baltimore, MD/Towson) made one save in the fourth to preserve the shutout.

The Shoremen outshot the Bears, 45-16, scooped up 68 ground balls to Ursinus's 30, and won 17 of the game's 23 face-offs.

The Shoremen return to action Saturday when they host Stevens Tech at 1:30 p.m.
