The Game Story:
ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- Elizabethtown returned home for the first time in over two weeks Sunday, and the fledgling Blue Jays defeated Middle Atlantic Conference rival Drew 9-5 to improve to 5-5 overall and 4-3 in the MAC in just their first season of competition. Drew dropped to 1-9 overall and 1-4 in the conference with the loss.

Etown scored first five minutes into the game when Ryan Smetana (Conowingo, MD/John Carroll) found the back of the net unassisted. Drew struck back with 7:54 left in the first quarter when David Ferruggia (Green Brook, NJ/Delbarton) scored unassisted.

With the score tied 1-1 to start the second quarter, Etown's offense exploded for five unanswered goals before halftime. Matt Newell (Malvern, PA/Great Valley) scored off an assist from Sean Thomson (Malvern, PA/Great Valley) with a man advantage at 13:36. Wes Kinney (Lexington, KY/Medfield) followed with an unassisted goal at 12:15, and Mike Dunn (Upper Darby, PA/Bonner) scored on an assist from Allen Churchman (Aston, PA/Garnet Valley) at 11:12. Justin McQuaid (Chester Heights, PA/Garnet Valley) scored for Etown on an assist from Newell at 8:05, and Newell scored again with some help from Dave Eshleman (Lancaster, PA/Manheim Township) at 1:43, giving Etown a 6-1 lead at the half.

Drew crept back into the game in the third quarter, outscoring Etown 2-0 then. Craig Middleton (S. Setauket, NY/Ward Melville) scored a man-advantage goal on an assist from Nate Matsui (Setauket, NY/Ward Melville) at 10:01 remaining, and Matsui scored unassisted at 7:11.

Drew cut Etown's lead to 6-4 when Ferruggia scored unassisted at 11:53 remaining in the fourth period. The Blue Jays began to pull away again with a goal by Kinney, assisted by McQuaid, at 10:36. Newell followed with his third goal of the game at 9:26 off an assist from Dunn with a man advantage, giving Etown an 8-4 lead. Drew struck back with another Matsui goal at 4:34, but at 2:28 Etown scored again as Kinney completed a hat trick, making the score 9-5 in favor of Etown.

Kinney and Newell led the Blue Jays in goals scored with three apiece, and six Blue Jays registered one assist. Thomson and Ryan Leister (Bally, PA/Boyertown) each led the team with five ground balls. Ferruggia and Matsui both led Drew with two goals scored, and Matsui was the only Ranger to log an assist. Middleton led the Rangers with four ground balls.

Drew goaltender Mike Litman (Ellicott City, MD/St. James) made 16 saves for the Rangers, and Etown goalie Brian Burke (Upper Darby, PA/Haverford) had 12 saves. Etown out-shot Drew 43-22 and scooped up 39 ground balls against just 19 for Drew.

Elizabethtown returns to action at home against MAC rival Lycoming Thursday, April 18 for a 4:00 p.m. game.
