The Game Story:
The nationally-ranked St. John Fisher College menís lacrosse team improved to 5-0 on the year with an 11-5 win over previously-unbeaten SUNY College at Brockport on Tuesday at Fisherís Growney Stadium.

The Cardinals, ranked 22nd in the latest USILA Poll, outscored the Golden Eagles 8-2 over the final 34:17. Ryan Schmidt finished with three goals and one assist, while Jeff Price added two goals and two assists. Mitchie Ritchie and Chris Schmidt each scored twice, while Mike Cummins picked up one goal and one assist. Scott Bowen (one goal), Dave Malone (one assist) and Kyle Denhoff (one assist) also recorded a point in the win. Fisherís Jon Cortina allowed three goals in the first five shots he faced, but rebounded nicely, finishing with a season-high 13 saves.

Fisher never trailed in the game, but Brockport hung tough early, tying the game at 1, 2 and finally at 3-3 with 8:56 left in the first half. The Cardinals scored the final two goals of the second quarter to take a 5-3 lead into the locker room and pushed its lead to 7-3 with back-to-back goals from Price.

Brockportís Adam Drypolcher made it 7-4 with just under one minute left in the third quarter, but the Cardinals scored two goals in the first minute of the final frame, with both goals coming in a seven-second span. Ritchie made it 8-4 with 14:33 left in the game and after a won faceoff by Erich Rassow, Cummins pushed the Cardinalsí lead to 9-4 with 14:26 remaining.
Rassow was 15-for-20 on faceoffs and scooped up six ground balls.

Fisher, who is off to a 5-0 start for the third straight year, will return to action at 1 p.m. on Saturday and will host SUNY Oneonta.
