Saint John Fisher vs. Brockport

The Game Story:
The St. John Fisher College menís lacrosse team set two program records in todayís 14-6 win over visiting College at Brockport.

The victory raises Fisherís overall record to 7-0, marking its best start in program history along with its longest winning streak. The old mark of six consecutive wins and a 6-0 start, were set last year.

Fisher outscored the Golden Eagles 9-3 in the second half to secure the victory. The Cardinals added to its halftime margin of two goals with four straight goals to start the third period. Jeff Price started the goal scoring in the third at 10:41 off a pass from junior Dave Malone. With the assist, Malone became the all-time leader in assists at St. John Fisher College. The attack led the Cardinals on the afternoon with four goals and three assists.

Price also finished the day with four goals on just five shots while collecting one ground ball. Chris Schmidt finished with three points (1 G, 2 A) while freshman Kyle Denhoff finished with 2 points (1 G, 1 A). Also having 2 points on the day was midfielder Mike Cummins (2 A).

Rounding out the scoring for the Cardinals was Scott Bowen, Ryan Schmidt, Matt Kaiser, and Zach Fayette, who all finished with one goal.

Helping in the win was junior goalie Jon Cortina who stopped 10 shots and faceoff specialist Dave Wood who won 19-of-22 (86.4%) in the circle.

In the first half, Fisher jumped out to a 1-0 lead with a goal from Price just 62 seconds into the contest and led 2-0 after Bowen scored a pass from Cummins four minutes later.

Brockport tied the game at 3-3 midway through the second quarter, but Fisher took a 5-3 lead into the locker room after Malone tapped in a loss ball with 36 seconds left in the first half.

Fisher will return to action and try to extend its winning streak on Wednesday when it hosts Elmira College at 4 p.m.
