| Washington & Jefferson freshman attacker Ed Farruggia (Cincinnati, Ohio/Indian Hill) set a new school record with eight goals, but it was not enough as Saint Vincent held off the Presidents, 19-14, in men's lacrosse action on Wednesday afternoon at Alexandre Stadium. W&J also set a school record for team goals in a single game in the loss. Saint Vincent upped its lead to 13-6 at the 11:17 mark of the third quarter after a goal by sophomore midfielder Mike Leiendecker (Munhall, Pa./Central Catholic), but W&J responded four-straight goals over the next four minutes to close to within 13-10. Farruggia and freshman attacker Tim Huckestein (Allison Park, Pa./North Allegheny) both scored a pair of goals during the rally. SVC answered with a five-goal stretch to stake claim to an 18-10 advantage, but the Presidents once again rallied to bring the margin back to four (18-14) with 5:47 remaining. Huckestein started the four-goal run with 11:49 left and Farruggia netted three goals in a four-minute span; however,Washington & Jefferson could not get any closer. |
