Washington And Jefferson vs. Wheeling Jesuit

The Game Story:
WASHINGTON, Pa. -- Jeremy Johnson scored one goal and assisted on 10 others as Division II Wheeling Jesuit cruised past Washington & Jefferson, 19-3, in men^s lacrosse action on Monday afternoon at Cameron Stadium.

Justin Snyder added seven goals and one assist for the Cardinals, who improved to 2-0 on the season.

Snyder scored two goals off assists by Johnson in the first five minutes of the game to assume a 3-0 lead, but W&J (1-1) answered on a goal by freshman attacker Doug Lash (West Mifflin, Pa./Central Catholic) at the 9:24 mark of the first quarter to slice the lead to 3-1. Junior attacker Phil Johnson (Washington, Pa./Trinity) assisted on the Presidents^ first goal.

Wheeling Jesuit would then run off five-straight goals to close the half and hold an 8-1 advantage after 30 minutes of action. Snyder notched four-first half tallies, while Johnson posted four assists.

Snyder, who finished the game with 21 shots, scored three of the six Cardinal goals in the third quarter as Wheeling Jesuit built a 15-2 lead. The Presidents were outscored, 4-1, in the final period as the Cardinals ran away with the 16-goal victory.

Joe Opron and Domenic Marzano also netted three goals each for Wheeling Jesuit, which outshot Washington & Jefferson by a 62-13 margin. The Cardinals held a 68-26 edge in ground balls.

Lash added a fourth-quarter goal to finish with a pair of scores, while freshman attacker Matt Kozera (Towson, Md./Boys Latin School) picked up the other W&J goal. Sophomore goalkeeper Doug DiGiovanni (Washington, Pa./Trinity) notched 15 saves for the Presidents.

Washington & Jefferson returns to action on Wednesday, March 26th, as it hosts NCAC-opponent Wittenberg at 7:00 pm at Cameron Stadium.
