| WASHINGTON, Pa. -- Three Cardinals netted hat tricks as Catholic ran away with a 17-5 victory over Washington & Jefferson in men’s lacrosse action on Saturday afternoon in the first-ever game played at Alexandre Stadium.
Senior midfielder Justin Kelly (Milton, Mass./Boston College High), sophomore attacker Terence Kempf (Glenside, Pa./LaSalle) and freshman midfielder Kevin Picken (Brookhaven, N.Y./Stony Brook School) all scored three times for CUA (9-5). Catholic held a 5-0 lead after 15 minutes of play and a 10-2 halftime advantage. Kelly added one assist, while junior attacker Tom Alexander (Manhassett, N.Y./St. Mary’s) totaled two goals and one assist. Sophomore attacker Conor Kelly (Milton, Mass./Boston College High) and freshman midfielder Phil Reinckens (Bethesda, Md./St. Johns) also collected a pair of goals. Junior goalie Andrew Couden (Oneonta, N.Y./Oneonta) amassed nine saves in the winning effort. W&J was led by junior attacker Kyle O’Meara (Lakewood, Ohio/Lakewood), who scored two goals and handed out one assist. Sophomore attacker Doug Lash (West Mifflin, Pa./Central Catholic) had one goal and one assist, while sophomore midfielder Madoche Jean (Immakolee, Fla./Immakolee) and freshman midfielder Matt Lynch (Camp Hill, Pa./Cumberland Valley) both scored one goal. Junior goalkeeper Doug DiGiovanni (Washington, Pa./Trinity) racked up 23 saves. Catholic held a 46-19 shot advantage and a 22-17 edge in ground balls. The Presidents (0-9) round out their season next Saturday as they take on Medaille in Buffalo, N.Y., at 1:00 pm. |
