The Game Story:
WASHINGTON, Pa. -- Freshman attacker Matt Kozera (Towson, Md./Boys Latin School) scored four goals in his collegiate debut as Washington & Jefferson opened the 2003 season with a 10-8 victory over Marietta in men^s lacrosse action on Saturday afternoon at Cameron Stadium.

The Presidents (1-0), competing in just their second varsity season, have now defeated the Pioneers (0-1) twice in three meetings over the past two seasons.

W&J held a 4-2 advantage at halftime, but the Pioneers scored four unanswered goals in the third period to claim a 6-4 lead with 15 minutes remaining. Washington & Jefferson responded by outscoring Marietta, 6-2 in the final frame to pick up the 10-8 win.

Kozera added two assists to his four-goal day, while junior attacker Phil Johnson (Washington, Pa./Trinity) also garnered a six-point day with three goals and three assists.

Senior midfielder D.J. Dimarco (Pittsburgh, Pa./Sewickley Academy), sophomore midfielder Mike Prushnok (Punxsutawney, Pa./Punxsutawney) and freshman attacker Doug Lash (West Mifflin, Pa./Central Catholic) all notched one goal a piece for the Presidents. Lash also dished out two helpers.

Sophomore goalkeeper Doug DiGiovanni (Washington, Pa./Trinity) amassed six saves to earn the victory. W&J outshot the Pioneers by a 25-17 margin.

Chris Rowswell led Marietta with four goals, while Adam Cervanka added three scores and one assist.

The Presidents return to action on Monday afternoon as they host Division II Wheeling Jesuit at 4:00 pm at Cameron Stadium.
