W&J DOMINATES MEDAILLE DURING 19-6 SEASON-ENDING WIN (4/28)

WASHINGTON, Pa. -- Junior midfielder Russ Kalkstein (Baltimore, Md./Loyola) {right} scored five goals and dished out three assists to help Washington & Jefferson rout Medaille, 19-6, in the menís lacrosse season finale for both squads on Saturday afternoon at Alexandre Stadium.

W&J closes its season with a 3-11 record, while Medaille dropped to 3-9. Kalkstein also won 14-of-17 face-off attempts and collected 13 ground balls.

The Presidents scored three of the four first-quarter goals to post a 3-1 lead after 15 minutes. Sophomore midfielder Sean Jasionowski (Bear, Del./Pennington) dropped in two of W&Jís scores.

Kalkstein fired in four goals in the second quarter to help the Presidents take a commanding 8-2 lead into halftime. Sophomore midfielder Kyle Worthley (Marietta, Ga./Harrison) also added his second goal of the game during the quarter.

After Medaille freshman attacker Brad Gurbacki (Churchville, N.Y./Churchville-Chili) scored two goals in the first five minutes of the third quarter to narrow the MC deficit to 9-4, the Presidents ripped off six unanswered goals to seal the win. Worthley netted a pair of scores during the spurt.

Worthley finished with five goals and two assists, while sophomore attacker Zach Devilbiss (Taneytown, Md./Francis Scott Key) contributed three goals and two assists. Jasionowski (2g, 1a) and junior midfielder Tim Huckestein (Allison Park, Pa./North Allegheny) both finished with three points. Huckestein totaled one goal and two assists. Eight different Presidents poured in goals during the win.

Junior goalie Andrew Reid (Franklin, Tenn./University School of Nashville) earned the victory after stopping six shots in the first half.

Gurbacki led the Maverick offense with four goals and one assist. Sophomore goalie Ben Dlugosh (Palmyra, N.Y./Palmyra-Macedon) made 19 saves.

The Presidents out-shot the Mavericks by a 49-28 margin and held a 56-32 edge in ground balls. W&J also claimed 22-of-28 face-offs.
