| WASHINGTON, Pa. -- Freshman attacker Matt Kozera (Towson, Md./Boys Latin
School) scored four goals and dished out three assists for a career-high
seven points as Washington & Jefferson hung on for a 12-10 victory over
Oberlin in men^Òs lacrosse action on Saturday afternoon at Cameron Stadium.
Fellow freshman midfielder Jeff Ford (Glastonbury, Conn./Glastonbury) added four goals for the Presidents, who evened their record at 2-2. The Presidents jumped out to a 5-3 lead after the first quarter behind a pair of goals from Kozera and Ford. Kozera then scored two goals in the final four minutes of the first half to give W&J a 9-5 halftime advantage. Freshman attacker Doug Lash (West Mifflin, Pa./Central Catholic) increased the lead to 10-5 at the 6:08 mark of the third period off an assist from Kozera, but the Yeomen countered with two goals in an 18-second span to trim the W&J lead to 10-7 after three quarters. Oberlin freshman midfielder Will Jaffee (Lexington, Mass./Lexington) found the back of the net with just over three minutes remaining to cut the lead to 11-10; however, Ford secured the win for the Presidents with a goal a minute later off an assist from Lash. Junior attacker Phil Johnson (Washington, Pa./Trinity) added three goals and one assist for Washington & Jefferson, while Lash handed out four assists to go with his one goal. Sophomore goalkeeper Doug DiGiovanni (Washington, Pa./Trinity) earned his fifth career victory after totaling nine saves. Jaffee scored four goals to lead Oberlin. Senior attacker Erik Vachon (Herndon, Va./Landon) picked up three scores and one assist, while senior attacker Derrick Watson (Stouton, Va./Stouton) added two goals. Freshman goalie Jared Pickard (Randolph, N.J./Randolph) amassed 13 saves in the loss. W&J, which held a 43-29 advantage in shots, returns to action next Saturday as it hosts Lees-McRae at 2:00 pm. |
