Cazenovia vs. Tri-state

The Game Story:
CAZENOVIA, N.Y. – The Cazenovia College men’s lacrosse lost to the Tri-State University Thunder, 13-8, Saturday afternoon on senior day for the Wildcats.

Dan Burkey (Fulton, NY/G. Ray Bodley), Brandon Conway (E. Freetown, NY/Bryant & Stratton), Chris Harrington (Cortland, NY/Cortland) and Joe Hernon (New Hartford, NY/New Hartford) were all recognized before the game for their time spent in the program.

The Wildcats looked sharp at the start of the game, taking a 3-0 lead after the end of one on goals from Adam Clark (Camillus, NY/OCC), Gareth Fabian (Randolph, Vt./Randolph-Union) and Pat Sauers (Saranac Lake, NY/Saranac Lake). The Thunder got on the board in the second quarter at the 13:42 mark and Cazenovia’s Sauers responded 44 seconds later with another goal for the Wildcats. Tri-State added a goal before the half and the Wildcats took a 4-2 lead into the half.

The Thunder came out of the break with some new found offense, scoring six straight goals to open the half and take an 8-4 lead. Cazenovia’s Chris Lamb (Ottawa, Ont./Trinity Catholic) and Nathan Rosenberger (La Mesa, Ca./Grossmont) netted consecutive goals to bring the Wildcats to within two, 8-6, at the 2:36 mark of the third quarter. That’s as close as Cazenovia would get as Tri-State outscored the Wildcats 5-2 to end the contest.

Clark scored three goals to lead Cazenovia in that category, while Fabian dished out three assists and added one goal. Harrington collected 13 saves in 60 minutes in goal for the Wildcats.

Cory Childs had three goals and four assists to lead the Thunder in the win.

Cazenovia did have the edge in ground balls, collecting 45 compared to 40 for Tri-State. The Thunder got off nine more shots (40-31) than Cazenovia and the teams split the face-offs with each winning 12-of-24.

Cazenovia will play Morrisville on Monday, April 28 at 4:00 p.m. in their final home game of the season.
