The Game Story:
SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Cazenovia College men’s lacrosse team has now won four of its last five games after defeating the Penn State Abington Nittany Lions, 20-4, Saturday afternoon in unfavorable conditions.

Cazenovia’s 20 goals were a season high and the Wildcats improved to 5-4 over all with the victory. The Nittany Lions dropped to 0-9.

Cazenovia sophomore Kyle Boland (Clifton Park, NY) scored a game-high seven goals to go along with two assists. Junior Gareth Fabian (Randolph, VT) led the Wildcats with 10 points on six goals and four assists. Freshmen Javon Pakkala (Newfield, NY) and Dylan West (Smithtown, NY) each netted three goals, while junior Pat Sauers (Saranac Lake, NY) added one.

The Nittany Lions scored the first goal of the game just under five minutes into the contest to take a quick 1-0 lead. The Wildcats answered with four straight goals, including back-to-back scores by Fabian, to make it 4-1 with 2:30 left to play. Each team added a goal before the end of the period to bring the score to 5-2 after one. The second and third quarters are when the Wildcats distanced themselves, outscoring the Nittany Lions 13-2 in that span. Cazenovia controlled the clock in the fourth and added two more goals en route to the win.

The Cazenovia goalie trio of Alex Ianicello (Camillus, NY), Travis Carruthers (Cortland, NY) and Ethan Hilberg (Jarrettsville, MD) combined for four saves and allowed four goals on 13 shots.

The Wildcats outshot the Nittany Lions 47-13 and held the edge in ground balls, 42-28. Cazenovia dominated the face-offs, winning 22-of-28. Senior Chris Lamb (Ottawa, Ont.) was 17-of-19 on face-offs and Junior Gary Reisman (Baldwinsville, NY) collected a game-high 11 ground balls.

The Wildcats are set to host Alfred University in non-conference action Wednesday at 4:00 p.m.
