Alvernia vs. Wesley

The Game Story:
Reading, PA (April 12, 2006) – Wesley College scored eight goals in the opening quarter and cruised to a 14-3 win over Alvernia College Wednesday afternoon in Pennsylvania Athletic Conference men’s lacrosse action at Schlager Memorial Field.

The Wolverines (8-4, 3-1 PAC) were led by Kenny Glaveskas (Pasadena, MD/Northeast) and Mike DiFede (Ridge, NY/Longwood) who scored four goals apiece. Alvernia got a pair of goals from sophomore Tom Novak (Pottstown, PA/Pottsgrove).

Wesley freshman Greg Taylor (Newark, DE/Newark) opened the scoring with a pair of goals in the opening five minutes. The visitors scored four more times over the next seven minutes and DiFede followed with three straight goals, the first two separated by just five seconds.

Novak scored the first goal of the day for Alvernia at the 6:57 mark of the second quarter to make the score 10-1 and Wesley tacked on one more for an 11-1 lead at halftime.

Alvernia freshman Sean Cullen (Lincoln Park, NJ/Boonton) scored the first goal of the second half at 12:51 of the third quarter and Novak scored his second at 3:16.

Wesley closed the scoring with the last goal of the third quarter and the only goal of the fourth for the 14-3 final. Senior Chris Kanauss (Sewell, NJ/Washington Twp.) made 10 saves for the Crusaders. Wesley split the goal-keeping with sophomore starter Jim McCleaft (Brookhaven, PA/Sun Valley) playing the first two quarters and making five saves.

Alvernia’s next game will be versus Moravian College on Thursday at Lehigh University at 7:30 p.m.
