The Game Story:
Reading, Pa. (Mar. 13, 2010) - Freshman attack Robert Finnegan (Newark, Del./St. Mark's) scored five goals including the game-winner to lead Alvernia University (2-2) to an 8-7 double overtime win over Mt. St. Vincent College (2-2) Saturday afternoon in rain-soaked, non-conference men's lacrosse action at Schlager Memorial Field.

The Dolphins took a 6-4 lead with just over five minutes to play before Finnegan took over. He scored at 4:30 assisted by Ryan Przyborowski (Booton Township, N.J./Mountain Lakes) to pull Alvernia within 6-5, knotted the score assisted by Brett Moore (Landisville, Pa./Hempfield) at 4:08, and put the Crusaders up 7-6 at 3:42 assisted by Dan Hoffstetter (Center Valley, Pa./Southern Lehigh). In all the 6-2 freshman netted three goals in the span of 48 seconds to pull the Crusaders from down two, to up one with three and a half minutes to play.

The Dolphins showed their own moxie by tying the score at 7-all with 34 seconds left in the game. Dan Cohen took the ball from the goal line on the left and found Cavan Valance who tied the score and forced overtime.

Neither team capitalized on overtime opportunities until Chris Baker (Exeter, Pa./Exeter) fed a ball from behind the net on the right side and Finnegan deposited the game-winner.

Lozoskie, Giberson, and Baker all finished with a goal apiece and seven different players had one assist for Alvernia. Kevin Shupp (Cranford, N.Y./Cranford) made 14 saves in the win. MSV goalie Mike Nuzzi stopped 13 for the Dolphins.

The Dolphins opened the scoring in the pouring rain when Chris Beermann found the back of the net for his first goal of the season. Alvernia answered it when Jon Lozoskie (Fallston, Md./Fallston) scored assisted by Drew Giberson (Conestoga, Pa./Penn Manor) with 25 seconds left in the quarter.

Alvernia scored the only goal of the second quarter at the 11:28 mark and took a 2-1 lead into halftime. Finnegan took a feed from Tom Casper (Milwaukee, Wisc./Marquette) just above the crease and beat the Dolphins' goalie low for his third of the season.

Alvernia stretched its lead to 3-1 on Giberson's goal at 13:20 of the third, but MSV answered within 40 seconds to cut the gap back to one and tied the score on a Dan Cohen goal with 9:43 left in the quarter.
