Six-Goal First Leads Immaculata Past Alvernia

Reading, Pa. (Mar. 20, 2010) - Immaculata University (4-2) scored six goals in the first quarter to set itself up for a 10-3 win over Alvernia University (3-3) Saturday afternoon in non-conference men's lacrosse action at Schlager Memorial Field.

The Mighty Macs scored their first three goals over the opening eight-plus minutes. Alvernia sophomore Jon Lozoskie (Fallston, Md./Fallston) put the Crusaders on the board assisted by Tom Casper (Milwaukee, Wisc./Marquette), but IU scored three in the final two minutes for a 6-1 lead after the first quarter.

Alvernia got the only tally of the second quarter, an unassisted goal by sophomore defender Jake Busby (Cochranville, Pa./Bishop Shanahan) midway through the frame, and trailed 6-2 at halftime.

Casper scored unassisted for the Crusaders in the third, but it was the only score in the second half for the hosts while IU tallied four.

Sophomore goalie Kevin Shupp (Cranford, N.Y./Cranford) stopped 14 in net for the Crusaders.

After starting the season with six straight home games, the Crusaders hit the road to open the conference schedule Wednesday at DeSales.
