| Reading, Pa. (Mar. 14, 2010) - Sophomore attack Drew Giberson (Conestoga, Pa./Penn Manor) handed out a career-high five assists and Robert Finnegan (Newark, Del./St. Mark's) scored four goals to lead Alvernia University (3-2) to an 11-7 win over Wells College (0-4) Sunday afternoon in non-conference men's lacrosse action at Schlager Memorial Field. The Express started things with a spoiler on its mind netting the first two goals of the game and scoring a third just before the first-quarter horn for a 3-1 lead after the opening 15 minutes. The Crusaders only goal of the quarter came a man-down with Tom Casper (Milwaukee, Wisc./Marquette) setting up Chris Baker (Exeter, Pa./Exeter) at 4:28. Alvernia stormed out of the gate in the second quarter and thanks to a 4-1 effort in the quarter the Maroon and Gold took a 5-4 lead into halftime. Giberson set up three of the four goals for the quarter, two of them to Finnegan. Wells knotted the game at 5-all with the first goal of the third quarter, but Alvernia put together a string of five straight to end the third and start the fourth for a 10-5 lead with 6:10 left in the game. Sophomore goalie Kevin Shupp (Cranford, N.Y./Cranford) made 13 saves in net for the Crusaders while Kyle Brimm stopped 12 for the Express. After four games in seven days, the Crusaders will take a well-deserved break from competition before hosting Immaculata next Saturday. |
