Mike Nuzzi stopped 22 shots for the Dolphins.
Yonkers, N.Y. – The College of Mount Saint Vincent was outscored 6-4 in he second half and was edged in a non-league contest 10-9 on Saturday afternoon at Tibbetts Brook Park by Cazenovia. Newcomer Cavan Valance (Glen Cove, N.Y.) scored four goals for the Mount and sophomore Mike Shea (Congers, N.Y.) scored one and assisted on three others. Junior netminder Mike Nuzzi (Westbury, N.Y.) made 22 saves for the Dolphins.

After the Wildcats scored just 42 seconds into the contest, the Dolphins scored four straight goals with two coming on the man advantage. Cazenovia’s T.J. Shaw scored back-to-back markers in the second quarter and Gareth Fabian added a goal to \ knot the score at 4-4 with just under 3:00 left in the half. Mount Saint Vincent’s Ryan O’Dougherty (Middletown, N.J.) scored with 1:34 left in the second quarter to send the Dolphins to the intermission with a 5-4 lead.

The Wildcats would score five of the final seven goals in the contest on Saturday to earn the win. Cazenovia took an 8-7 lead with 10:44 left in regulation on a Jevon Pakkala tally assisted by Shaw. Mount Saint Vincent would tie and regain the lead with goals from Valance and Shea to go up 9-8 with 8:07 remaining.

Fabain would score the final two goals of the contest on assists from Kyle Boland to take the game. He knotted the score at nine with 6:13 left in the game and then netted the game winner on a pretty feed from Boland with 59 seconds left.

The Wildcats held a commanding edge in shots on Saturday at 53-31. Mount Saint Vincent picked up 42 groundballs to 41 for the visitors, but Cazenovia won 14 of the 23 face-offs on the day.

Russ Holland (Brooklyn, N.Y.) led the Dolphins with eight groundballs in the tilt with O’Dougherty scooping six. Chris Guastamacchia (Goshen, N.Y.) won eight draws and picked up a pair of groundballs.

Boland had a big day for Cazenovia as he scored two goals and assisted on three others for a five point afternoon. Fabian netted four goals and added an assist, while Shaw scored twice and added an assist.

Nuzzi continued his strong play in the cage for the Mount by stopping 22 shots, including 12 in the second half. He also finished the game with four groundballs. Cazenovia used a pair of goalies in the game with Travis Carruthers stopping five shots and Alex Iannicello making eight stops.

The loss drops Mount Saint Vincent to 2-3 overall on the season. Next up for the Mount is a midweek non-league tilt with Mitchell (Conn.) on Tuesday night. Face-off is set for 7:00 p.m. at Tibbetts Brook Park.
