Moravian vs. Goucher

The Game Story:
The Goucher College menís lacrosse team rallied from a 4-1 deficit with a five-goal second quarter then held on to post an 8-5 victory over host Moravian in Landmark Conference action at Rocco Calvo Field.

The Gophers scored the first goal on a tally from senior attack Sam Fitzpatrick with 12:36 remaining in the first quarter, but the Greyhounds answered with four straight goals including two from sophomore midfielder David Forte to lead 4-1 after 15 minutes of action. Goucher would score all five goals in the second quarter including three with a man advantage to take a 6-4 lead at halftime.

Moravian netted the only goal in the third quarter, a man-up goal from sophomore midfielder Robert Devine, to cut the Gopher lead to 6-5. Goucher scored twice in the final 15 minutes including another man-up goal to earn the victory. A total of 12 of the 13 goals in the match were scored on the east end of the field. The Gophers finished the game with a 32-24 advantage in shots, a 29-28 edge in ground balls, and won nine of 16 face-offs.

Forteís two goals led the Greyhounds while sophomore attack David Bennett had a goal and two assists. Devine and senior attack Jason Tosches each scored goals for Moravian while sophomore attack Christopher Mohapp and freshman defender Merrick Smith each had assists.

Senior defender Steve Carroll led the Greyhounds with eight ground balls and four caused turnovers while freshman midfielder Zachary Stein was five of 13 on face-offs. Forte won two of three face-offs he took. Greyhound senior goalie Benjamin Larson made 11 saves to become the first goalie in school history to reach 500 career saves, now with 505, and he had three ground balls.

Fitzpatrick led Goucher with three goals and an assist while freshman attack Rory Avertt netted two goals. Freshman attack Kyle Boncargo had a goal and two assists for the Gophers while junior midfielder Jake Fratella had a goal and an assist. Senior defender Max Walters netted his first goal of the season for Goucher while senior midfielder Brian Hoge had an assist.

Averett led the Gophers with seven ground balls while sophomore defender Justin Dunn caused three turnovers. Junior midfielder Nick LaBricciosa was nine-for-16 on face-offs. Junior goalie Chris Stricklin placed the first half in goal and made six saves for his first win of the year while senior keeper Austin Main had one save in the second half.
