The Game Story:
Sophomore attack David Bennett netted a hat trick including the game-winning goal as Moravian earned its first win of the 2009 season, defeating Gwynedd-Mercy College, 8-5, in non-conference action at Rocco Calvo Field.

The Greyhounds jumped out to a 4-0 lead and were ahead 4-1 after the first quarter. The Griffins, who are in their first year as a varsity sport, scored two of the three goals in the second quarter to pull within 5-3 at halftime. Moravian scored twice in the third quarter for a 7-3 lead after 45 minutes of action. Gwynedd-Mercy had a 27-24 edge in shots and won ten of 16 face-offs in the match while the Greyhounds held a 31-28 advantage in ground balls.

Freshman attack Jesse Peterson added two goals for Moravian including a man-down goal in the second quarter, three caused turnovers and four ground balls while sophomore midfielder Robert Devine had one goal and one assists to go with three caused turnovers and a team high six ground balls. Senior attacks Christopher Danni and Jason Tosches each had goals for Moravian while sophomore attack Christopher Mohapp added two assists.

Senior defender Steven Carroll had four ground balls for the Greyhounds while sophomore goalie Benjamin Leavy had 14 saves and three ground balls in his first start of the season.

Freshmen midfielders Stefan Hetland and Nicholas Coan led Gwynedd-Mercy with a goal and two assists each while freshman midfielders Thomas Stewart, Steve Miner and attack Jonathan Schmitt each had goals. Freshman midfielder Robert Kats led the Griffins by winning ten of 16 face-offs while freshman defender Michael Henry had a team high five ground balls.

Freshman defender Ben Glacken had five ground balls and three caused turnovers while sophomore goalie Kevin Hens had ten saves and six ground balls in the match.
