Western Connecticut vs. Eastern Connecticut

The Game Story:
DANBURY, CT- The Eastern Connecticut State University men’s lacrosse team rolled to a 15-5 victory over Western Connecticut State University’s in the Little East Conference action at the Westside Athletic Complex Wednesday night.
The Colonials, 4-2 overall and 1-1 in the league drew to within one goal, 2-1 early in the first quarter but that was before the perennial powerhouse Warriors kicked it into another gear.
Eastern Connecticut scored five of the game’s next six goals to close out the first half.
Chris Elrod (Riverside, CT) scored three goals in each half for a total six goals and assisted on two others for eight points on the night.
Rob Quamily (Redding, CT) and Pete Hamilton (Rutland, VT) each scored two goals for the winners. Dave Carpenter (Redding, CT) and nearby Joel Barlow High School, netted one goal and assisted on three others for Eastern.
After taking a 7-2 lead at intermission, the Warriors outscored WestConn, 6-1 in the third stanza to put away any thought of a Colonials’ comeback.
The Colonials were led by their top goal scorer Justin Monroe (Norwalk, CT) as he scored two goals on the night. Monroe now has 15 goals on the season.
Dennis Skarda (Danbury, CT), Jeremy Salley (Norwalk, CT) and John Stashenko (Norwalk, CT) scored one goal apiece to close out the scoring for WestConn.
Scott Fox (New Rochelle, NY) had another solid performance in goal for the Colonials, making 16 saves while facing 45 total shots by the Warriors.
Will Holland (Kent, CT) made nine saves for Eastern before yielding to Kiernan Daly (Windsor, CT) for the final 10 minutes of play.
WestConn travels to University of Southern Maine on Saturday, April 9 for a 1 p.m. faceoff.

GAME NOTES: Eastern outshot Western, 45-24. It held a 67-35 advantage on groundballs.
