WESLEYAN UNIVERSITY PULLS AWAY FROM COLONIALS IN 14-5 WIN
DANBURY, CT- The Western Connecticut State Universityís menís lacrosse stayed close to powerful Wesleyan University before the Cardinals pulled away in a 14-5 victory at the Westside Athletic Complex Wednesday night.
The Cardinals, now 5-1 were lead by Grayson Connors (Princton Junction, NJ) with three goals and three assists on the night. Mike Hines (Newburyport, MA), Jordan Funt (Setauket, NY) and Chris Knacke (Lynbrook, NY) each added two goals for Wesleyan.
WestConn, now 3-1, had five different goal scorers.
Dennis Skarda (Danbury, CT) and Jeremy Salley (Norwalk, CT) each had one goal and one assist for the Colonials.
The Colonials took a 1-0 lead and later led 2-1 on a goal by Doug Clemens (Stamford, CT) with 5:40 left in the first quarter.
Wesleyan then went on a 6-0 run, capped off by Knackeís first goal of the night. It never looked back from there and led 8-3 at intermission.
Matt Wheeler (Darien, CT) earned the victory in goal after making three saves before yielding to Charlie Congleton (Groton, MA) in the second half. Colin Prensky (Camp Hill, PA) mopped up in the final minute of play.
Two goalkeepers shared duties for Western with Chuck Byrne (New Rochelle, NY) and Scott Fox (New Rochelle, NY) making eight and six saves, respectively.
WestConn host Plymouth State University in its Little East Conference opener at the WAC this Saturday at 1 p.m.
