| DANBURY, Conn. -- Dennis Skarda (Danbury, Conn.) and Ron Pac (Glastonbury, Conn.) scored three goals each and Western Connecticut State University held on to defeat the University of Southern Maine, 11-7, in Little East Conference men's lacrosse action at the rainy Westside Athletic Complex Saturday afternoon. The victory was the first of the season in the conference for the Colonials who are now 4-6 overall and 1-2 in the league. The Huskies slip to 0-5 overall and 0-3 in the conference. WestConn raced out to a 7-0 first quarter lead, including the game's first two markers by Skarda, and led 8-1 at intermission. The Huskies picked away at another seven-goal lead in the final stanza and cut an 11-4 deficit with three unanswered goals to close out the game's scoring. Richard Allaire (Trumbull, Conn.) had two goals and two assists for four points for WestConn. Brendan Phillips (Mahopac, N.Y.) added a goal and three assist for the winners. Zach Fermanis (Gorham, Maine) scored two of his team-high three goals in the second half as Southern Maine outscored WestConn 6-3 over the final 30 minutes. Matt Manson (Leeds, Maine) added a goal and assist for the Huskies. Kyle Wood (Hyde Park, NY) went the distance in goal for the Colonials. He made three saves on the afternoon. Jeff Lamoureux (Walpole, Mass.) made 18 saves for Southern Maine. WestConn hosts Mount St. Vincent College this Wednesday, April 12. Face off is slated for 7:00 p.m. Southern Maine's next game is Tuesday at Maine Maritime Academy. Game time is 4:00 p.m. |
