Mitchell vs. Emerson
April 9, 2012
The Game Story:
NEW LONDON, Conn. – A five goal third period for the Mitchell Mariners was too much for the Emerson Men's Lacrosse Team to supersede Monday night as they fell 15-4 in New London, Conn. The loss drops the Lions to 0-6 on the season while Mitchell improves to 4-6.

The first period looked as though the Lions were going to hang tough with the Mariners as they battled off 14 shots by Mitchell while putting up seven of their own. Both teams locked up in an extremely physical game which saw the teams combine for 15 penalties for 14 minutes in the box. Mitchell struck first only about 30 seconds in, but Max Smith fired back to even it out before Shane Sullivan gave the lead back to the Mariners. Tyler Hastings took advantage as he netted one with four minutes left to keep it 2-2 after one.

After that it was all Mitchell though as they fired off four goals in the second period to hit the break up 6-2 before continuing the barrage in the third period with five more unanswered goals to make it 11-2 with a period remaining.

While the Mitchell Mariners kept the pressure on in the fourth, adding three more goals, EC showed a bit of life left with Eric Colleran adding Emerson's third goal off of a Max Smith pass before the Lions closed it out with the final goal of the night with Max Smith assisting again, this time to Tyler Hastings as time ran out.

The Lions return to the home pitch this Wednesday as they set to host the Mount Ida Mustangs in Boston at 7 p.m. at Rotch Field. The game was originally slated to be played at Mt. Ida at 4 p.m. but was switched.
