Castleton downs Thomas, remains perfect in NAC play

WATERVILLE, Maine – Alex Green (Braintree, Vt.) registered a game-high nine points on six goals and three assists as Castleton State College breezed to a 23-2 win over Thomas College in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) men’s lacrosse action Friday afternoon.

Green led 11 different Spartans who registered at least one point, including A.J. Groot (Canandaigua, N.Y.), Nohea King (St. Albans, Vt.) and Colin Murray (Oshawa, Ont.) who each netted three goals. Freshman Zach Davidson (South Burlington, Vt.) facilitated the high-scoring offense with six assists to go along with a pair of goals. Davidson has now registered multiple points in ten-straight games to open his career.

Gunner Shelton and Sean Machin each scored for the Terriers who fell to 1-7, 0-2.

Castleton has now won 22-straight NAC contests dating back to the 2010 season, and improves to 4-6, 3-0.

The Spartans led 8-1 after the first period, and rattled off 13-straight goals before Machin opened the scoring in the fourth period.

Brad Barber (Napean, Ont.) finished 23-for-28 in the faceoff circle and grabbed a game-high 12 ground balls to control the Spartan possession game.

For the game, Castleton outshot its host 52-19 while holding a 48-20 edge in ground balls, while converting an impressive 23-of-24 clear attempts.

Eric Horsfield (Tolland, Conn.) picked up the win, stopping seven shots, while Jesse Morkeski made 15 saves in the loss.

Castleton will take on the University of Maine at Farmington tomorrow at 12:30.
