4/18/2012 - MEN'S LACROSSE Lions' men's lacrosse team records fourth straight win Print Email RSS Share by Dane Neumeister Will McClanahan (Cincinnati, OH/Madeira) scored five goals, and the Mount led by a three-goal margin at halftime today, en route to an 14-11 home MLC win over Fontbonne University. The Mount climbs another notch in the conference standings with the win, going to 5-2 in the MLC and moving into third place. The Lions are 7-7 overall and the victory is their fourth straight. They are scheduled to resume action on Apr. 21 when they host conference opponent Trine University. The Mount jumped out to a 4-0 lead over the Griffins by the end of the first quarter, thanks to two goals from Ryan Gallagher (Chicago, IL/St. Rita). Mike Murphy (Crestwood, KY/South Oldham) scored with just under 1 1/2 minutes to play in the second quarter, giving his team a 7-4 lead at the intermission. The Lions made the score 13-8, with 10:11 to play when McClanahan tallied his fourth goal of the game, but Fontbonne would score the game's next three goals, closing the margin to 13-11 with 5:28 left in the game. They would get no closer as McClanahan closed the scoring in the game with his fifth and final goal coming with 2:53 to play. Murphy had three goals in the game while teammates Chris Uselmann (Carmel, IN/Westfield) and Gallagher chipped in two goals each. Gallagher also had two assists. Cody Nolan (Mason, OH/Mason) gained the win in goal, playing all 60 minutes and recording nine saves. The Lions held a 45-33 advantage in shots, including a 31-20 edge in shots on goal. |
