Lions' men's lacrosse team season ends in the MLC Tournament

The College of Mount St. Joseph saw its season come to an end today when they lost 9-6 in the semifinals of the Midwest Lacrosse Tournament semifinals to Aurora University. The Lions, who qualified to the MLC Tournament for the second straight season, end the 2012 campaign with a 9-8 record.

Aurora University, the second seed in the tournament, jumped out to a 4-0 lead against the Mount, the third seed. The Lions, however, would bounce back and score the game's next three goals, cutting the deficit to 4-3 at the 6:01 mark of the second quarter on a goal by Mike Murphy (Crestwood, KY/South Oldham). Aurora they went up by three goals, 6-3, by the 14:33 mark of the third quarter. The Mount, however, would go on another three-goal run, getting two goals from Will McClanahan (Cincinnati, OH/Madeira) tying the score at 6-all with 8:48 left in the third quarter. That would be all the scoring the Lions would do the rest of the game, as they were held to just five shots in the fourth quarter while the Spartans would score the go-ahead goal, on a man advantage, with 11:39 to play and add two more goals to advance to the MLC championship game against Adrian College.

McClanhan led the Mount with two scores, while teammates Cory Wojciechowski (Las Vegas, NV/Community College East), Anderson Morgan (Mason, OH/Moeller), Chris Uselmann (Carmel, IN/Westfield), and Murphy added one goal each. Cody Nolan (Mason, OH/Mason) had 13 saves in goal. Aurora out-shot the Mount, 32-30, including 22-17 in shots on goal.
