| NEWPORT NEWS, VA - Christopher Newport's men's lacrosse team lost its first match of the year, 20-1 to St. Mary's (MD) on Saturday afternoon. The Seahawks scored the first three goals of the game and CNU Head Coach Chris Swanenburg called a time out. After the time out, the Captains Ryan Merrell took a feed from Andy Mullinax and scored with 4:13 left in the opening quarter. St. Mary's would take over from there, dominating play, out-scoring the Christopher Newport 17-0 over the next 55 minutes. The Seahawks out-shot CNU, 39-22. Ray Ralph played the first three quarters and made eight saves. Mike Wemmer played the fourth quarter and had four saves. St. Mary's improves to 6-2 on the year and the Captains fall to 4-1. Christopher Newport returns to action this Wednesday when they travel to Hampden-Sydney with start time set for 3:30 pm. |
