|NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The Christopher Newport University men's lacrosse team won their second consecutive game with a dominating 19-3 victory over Ferrum College. Twelve Captains scored in the contest with John Thompson leading with four.|
The Captains jumped out to a six goal lead in the first period. John Glaser scored the first goal of the game at 13:19 and assisted on the last goal of the period to Kyle Pasta with 53 seconds remaining. CNU continued to pour it on with five more unanswered goals in the second period for an 11-0 score at the break.
CNU scored two to start the second half and Ferrum put their first goal on the board with 5:07 remaining. CNU answered with three goals to end the third period with a 16-1 score. The Panthers scored two in a row in the fourth but CNU tacked on three more goals for the 19-3 finish.
In addition to Thompson's four goals, Kyle Pasta, John Glaser, Billy Crist and Rob Koster scored two each. Koster led with two assists. Ari Elgort dominated in faceoffs winning 14 of 19 taken. He also led the team with 8 ground balls. Thompson had a team-high two caused turnovers.
Four goalkeepers played for the Captains with the win going to Andy McGregor. McGregor and Ryan Long made four saves each while Mark Hargrove and Dominic Gianino each had one.
The Captains outshot the Panthers 38 to 30 and had 24 ground balls to the Panthers' 15.
CNU returns to action tomorrow as they host Greensboro College at 11:00am in their last home game of the season.
