Fontbonne vs. Alfred

The Game Story:
March 12, 2008 - The Fontbonne University men's lacrosse team dropped their second game of the season last night as they fell to Alfred University 6-4. Fontbonne fell to 0-2 while Alfred improved to 1-1.

The Griffins jumped out to an early 1-0 just minutes into the game when junior attack Patrick Zeis scored his first goal of the season. After Alfred tied the score two minutes later, Fontbonne regained the lead as Ray Medalla scored his first score of the season. Fontbonne led 2-1 at the end of the first quarter.

The second quarter belonged to Alfred. The Saxons outscored the Griffins 3-0 in the second stanza and dominated the ground ball game picking up 10 to Fontbonne's 4 in this quarter. The Griffins appeared to make it a one goal game when Zeis netted another goal but it was disallowed. Alfred took a 4-2 lead into halftime.

In the third quarter Fontbonne came out and took the game to Alfred. Fontbonne captain Brooks McGee scored and an assist from Kendall Eckles at the 11:32 mark of the third quarter to make it a one goal game. Alfred bounced back to score two late goals to take a 6-3 lead into the fourth quarter.

In the final quarter Fontbonne again dominated the game but couldn't find the back of the net. Fontbonne outshot Alfred 12-0 in the final 15 minutes but only scored one goal. Brooks McGee scored his second goal of the game on an assist from Patrick Zeis with 4:30 to play in the game to make the score 6-4. The Griffins however couldn't get any closer as several quality scoring chances were stopped by Alfred goalie Adam Schutz.

For the game, Fontbonne outshot Alfred 27-21. Schhutz recorded 16 saves for Alfred while Fontbonne goalie Austen Doster made six saves. Fontbonne defensemen Todd Hope led the Griffins with five ground balls.

The Griffins now head to New York to play four games over Spring Break. Fontbonne's next game is against Vassar College on March 14th.
