Sewanee vs. Wittenberg

The Game Story:
After taking an early lead in the first quarter, Wittenberg held on to defeat the Tigers 6-5 in Men's Lacrosse action. Sewanee battled back to come within one point of a tie by the end of the third quarter. After evening the score at 5-5 in the fourth, Wittenberg scored the final goal of the game with 16 seconds on the clock to notch the win.

Wittenberg started strong and scored three straight goals in the first six minutes of play. Sewanee battled back with a goal by freshman Reed Daniel (Houston, Texas, St. John's School) with just over five minutes left in the first quarter. Junior Jack Thomasson (Charlottesville, Va., St. Anne's Belfied) scored on an assist by sophomore Carson Pfiefer (Louisville, Ky., Louisville Collegiate) with only two seconds remaining in the first.

Sewanee and Wittenberg would each score one goal in the remaining periods, capped off by Wittenberg's goal late in the fourth quarter with less than a minute to play. Sewanee goals were notched by freshman Davis Brown (Norcross, Ga., Wesleyan School) in the second quarter, Daniel in the third quarter, and Thomasson in the fourth quarter.

Junior Spencer Graves (Lynchburg, Va., Episcopal School) was steady in the goal for Sewanee with 13 saves on the night. Sophomore Pierce Leonard (Charlotte, N.C., Culver Military Academy) and junior David Shelton (Prairie Village, Kan., Culver Military Academy) paced the Tigers with 2 groundballs a piece. Sewanee ended the night 4 for 9 on faceoffs and converted 22 of 25 clears.

The next game for the Tigers will be held versus Kenyon in Gambier, Ohio, at 1:00 P.M. EST on March 5th.
