| SEWANEE, Tenn. (Feb. 29, 2012) – After a 15-minute weather delay, the Sewanee men's lacrosse team earned a 10-8 non-conference win over visiting Ferrum College, Wednesday, at Puett Field. The Tigers (2-1) closed the first half up one, 4-3. As third quarter action got underway, the Panthers scored the first two goals after Nicholas Smith and Kyle Post found the back of the net. However, Sewanee quickly responded when Pierce Leonard converted in a pass from Michael Morris with 10:06 left. Moments later, Sewanee ended the quarter on a strong note when Reed Daniel tied the score at 6-6. After Ferrum scored two out of the first three goals to start the fourth, Sewanee bounced back when Davis Brown fired in his first goal. Later in the quarter, with the score 8-8, Morris took over for the Tigers. The sophomore attacker netted consecutive goals, including the final goal from Daniel with 1:20 left. Leonard and Morris led Sewanee with four goals and an assist each. As a team, the Tigers outshot Ferrum by 10, 32-22. Additionally, Geoff Pippin won 11 face-offs while goalkeeper Tommy Healy earned his second win this season. Sewanee will look to build on its win, when the Tigers take on Kenyon College at 1:00 p.m. Sunday. |
