Hendrix vs. Southwestern

The Game Story:
CONWAY, Ark. – The Hendrix College men's lacrosse team dropped their 2013 opener 13-6 to Southwestern University at Warrior Field on Saturday night.

The visiting Pirates (2-0) outshot the Warriors (0-1) 27-20, and held a 54-48 ground ball advantage. Hendrix turnovers, compared to 36 by SU.

The Pirates jumped out to a 5-2 lead after the first quarter, led by a pair of goals from Tyler Downing and a goal and two assists from Jeremy Tufnell. Hendrix junior attacker Cameron Millstone scored on a pass from freshman midfielder Travis Rabun, and scored an unassisted goal in the opening period.

Downing, Jake Phillips, Jamie Long and Carter Cowan all scored for the Pirate in the second quarter, while Millstone tacked on two more unassisted goals and Rabun assisted freshman Zachary Baier's score, giving SU a 9-5 lead at halftime. Cowan and Long added a goal each in the third, while Millstone scored one. Austin Fox scored the final two goals of the game in the fourth quarter.

Millstone led the Warriors with a career-high five goals to go with 12 ground balls. He was also 10-of-16 on faceoff attempts. Rabun recorded two assists. Senior defenseman Robert McCarthy picked up seven ground balls and tied his career-best with four caused turnovers. Sophomore defenseman Matt Carpenter caused three turnovers and had three ground balls. Freshman keeper Joe Takacs registered six saves and seven ground balls.

Fox and Downing led Southwestern with three goals and an assist each. Cowan and Long each recorded two goals and an assists and Tufnell had a goal and two assists. Jake Phillips recorded six ground balls and won nine faceoffs. Jackson Timian also had six ground balls. AJ Cole recorded seven saves and five ground balls in goal.
