The Game Story:
(Lyndonville, Vt.)- Sophomore Jason Thompson (Massena, N.Y.) fired in a career-high six goals and set up another powering the SUNY Canton men’s lacrosse team to a 20-4 win over Lyndon State College Wednesday afternoon in Lyndonville, Vt.

The Roos, who end the regular season with a 6-6 record, had an advantage in every statistical category as SUNY Canton outshot the Hornets 71-30, grabbed 69 ground balls to 42 by Lyndon State, and won 19 of 26 faceoffs.

Thompson finished one point off his career-high in total points, as he scored five goals and one assist in the first half staking the Roos to a 13-2 lead at halftime. Thompson scored again early in third quarter to complete his seven-point afternoon.

Freshman Chris Gamble (Carthage, N.Y.) added three goals and one assist. Sophomore Greg Brangman (Syracuse, N.Y.) also scored three times. Senior Patrick Connelly (Chittenango, N.Y.) tallied two goals and one assist, and sophomores Ryan Cardiff (Albany, N.Y.) and Garrett DiTullio (Potsdam, N.Y.) contributed one goal and two assists each.

Freshman Devin Gruneisen (Potsdam, N.Y.) won 13 of 19 faceoffs and had seven ground balls. Gamble won 6 of 7 draws and had three ground balls. Cardiff finished with 10 ground balls. Brangman had a team-high 11 and freshman Alex Bonno (Colton, N.Y.) scooped up eight.

Freshman Jeff Hammond (Rensselaer Falls, N.Y.) earned his first collegiate win stopping three shots in the first half. Junior Corey Spuck (Rochester, N.Y.) played the second half and made five saves.

Timothy Patten had two goals and two assists to lead the Hornets, and James Strange had 21 saves in nearly 58 minutes in goal. Matthew Reynolds played the remainder of the contest and did not make a save.
