Carthage vs. La Roche

The Game Story:
The Carthage College men's lacrosse team (1-0, 0-0 Midwest Men's Lacrosse Conference) opened its 2011 season on Sunday, Feb. 20 with an 18-10 win over La Roche College (0-1) at the Ultimate Soccer Arena in Pontiac, Mich.

La Roche jumped out to an early 2-1 lead, thanks in part, to repeated penalties that kept Carthage in the box for most of the day. The Red Men led at halftime, 10-5, but the Redhawks fired back, closing to 11-8 in the middle if the third quarter. The Red Men pulled away with four transition goals from defensive players Dan Munthe, Andrew Bellville, Owen Foley and Alex Zemke. The Carthage's offense was fueled by an attack unit that scored 15 points on the afternoon.

Keegan Bowman (Jr., New Westminster, British Columbia/New Westminster Secondary) had four goals, Danny Morse (Fr., O'Fallon, Ill./O'Fallon Township) three goals and three assists, and Cory Childs (Sr., Savage, Minn./Prior Lake) added three goals with two assists.

The Red Men travel to Conway, Ark., on Saturday-Sunday, Feb. 26-27 for two games at Hendrix College. Carthage plays the University of Dallas on Saturday, Feb. 26, 2011 at the Hendrix College Athletic Field, beginning at 1 p.m. On Sunday, Feb. 27, the Red Men take on Hendrix at 10 a.m.
